Maria weaves together her professional practices in voice, movement, contemporary art, and science to empower effective expression in others. As a vocal coach, Maria is committed to facilitating a creative space where individuals can explore the edges of their artistry. She invites singers to play with a variety of methods and vocal techniques, fostering the desired coordination of their instruments for enhanced resonance, precision, and versatility, with less effort and fatigue.
Maria holds a Masters of Music in vocal performance from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, an Artist Diploma from Western University in Ontario, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Prince Edward Island. Maria is also a Level 2 Vocal Health First Aider and a Certified Personal Trainer. She is currently completing a Master of Science in Neuroscience & Psychology of Mental Health at King's College London, focusing her research on the mental health benefits of vocalizing.
Maria has served on the faculty at Mohawk College in Ontario as the music department's Voice Instructor where she led vocal ensemble and masterclasses in both contemporary and classical styles. She has also served on the faculty at Holland College in Charlottetown as a Voice Instructor in the School of Performing Arts.
Maria has performed a diverse range of genres including classical, folk, soul, pop, and musical theatre. She was praised for her "gorgeous soprano (voice), compelling stage presence and detailed dramatic skills..." in Neptune Theatre's production of Stan Rogers: A Matter of Heart. Other credits include Alcina (Villon Puccini), Albert Herring (Opera Factory) Robyn Hood (CCOA), Aladdin (CCOA), Harvest Moon Rising (The Guild), Anne and Gilbert (Harbourfront Theatre/Victoria Playhouse). Additionally, as the front-woman for the Motown cover band, The Motones, Maria belts out soulful classics from the motor city. Recognized for her influence in the arts community, Maria has been the recipient of the Fusion Charlottetown Influencer of the Year Award and has received PEI Arts Grants in support of her work.
