Teacher workshop at 10:00 am
Piano teachers hold a lot of hidden guilt about teaching composition. Do you wish you could break free from self-doubt, hesitation, lack of time, and kickstarting reluctant students? This workshop comes from my personal experience and journey through these obstacles. Join me and explore how it feels to liberate your spirit into a creative state and learn how to guide your students, as well. Find permission to search your soul, as well as practical step-by-step hints. Teachers are invited to stay for the student workshop to see these ideas in action.
Student workshop at 11:00 am
Come to this enlightening hands-on workshop. Bring your own percussion instrument (or two) and come prepared to make some noise! Our icebreaker music-making activities will help unlock your own belief in yourself to be creative. As we interact with each other and sounds, you will find confidence to make music without a page. As we explore sounds through different creative stages, you will learn some of the basic skills behind improvising, the basis of composition. We’ll also explore our own inner thought worlds as we find the reasons why creating is so important.
Rebekah Maxner is an imaginative composer whose piano music evokes pictures, stories and emotions. Her music is a mixture of styles, blending the influences of impressionist, jazz, Baroque and popular music. Rebekah is an active member of the global music community, having given workshops for
teachers, masterclasses for students, and having adjudicated piano and composition contests. She writes the ‘Rebekah Maxner Piano@Play blog’ and produces new piano music monthly through her MaxMusic Piano eSheet Club. Rebekah’s piano works have been printed and listed in exam syllabi, including the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), the London College of Music Examinations (LCM), and the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). Her music is listed in the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Bulletin (NFMC) in the USA, has been released in two publications by Topmusic Sheets in Australia, and most recently, included in Nicola Cantan’s Concept Collection Series in Ireland.
2024/25 Young Musicians' Recital Series with Rebekah Maxner
As part of a continuing effort to promote performance skills among student musicians, the PEI Registered Music Teachers’ Association (PEIRMTA) sponsors student recitals during the year. This series of recitals provides student musicians with the opportunity to gain performance experience in a supportive environment and to prepare for various music festivals and exams. Any music student on Prince Edward Island may participate.
